About Camera APIs

Get traffic images, manage security cameras, and build camera scanner apps with camera APIs.

What is a camera API?

A camera application programming interface (API) is a RESTful web service. It allows developers to add camera image management features to their client applications or websites.

How does a camera API work?

An API for cameras may utilize several request methods including GET, POST, PUT, and DELETE. Developers obtain an API key to access the API provider's service. Developers add endpoints to a client application or website. The API's endpoints are used to transport the requests and return results in JSON format.

Who is a camera API for?

APIs for cameras are for new and experienced developers that want to add camera features to their projects in the most efficient way. For example, developers that build applications and websites for surveillance companies, financial institutions, public and private buildings can benefit from security camera APIs.

Beyond the security realm, developers that create document scanner applications may find APIs for cameras helpful.

Why is an API for cameras important?

For developers, camera APIs are major coding tools. Using APIs helps them get their projects to market without having to read each line of code that the API service provides. In addition, since APIs rely on RESTful architecture, they glide across multiple platforms with ease. This translates into speedy request transfers and results for end-users.

What can you expect from a security camera API?

Developers can expect to discover new and creative ways of building custom applications using security camera APIs for their client-based projects. Cameras are everywhere, on drones, automobiles, doorbells, for instance. Therefore developers can expand their reach and code quickly with APIs for security cameras.

Businesses can expect to get a double portion of security-enhancing end-user products. They experience the developer's product design as well as the API's delivery speed. It is a two-fold approach that works.

Are there examples of free APIs for cameras?

RapidAPI's Marketplace lists several free and freemium APIs for adding camera features to projects. Sensr.net by Yacc is a free API that enables users to manage their Sensr.net surveillance account and cameras.

A freemium API on the Marketplace is Live Traffic Images by Al Box. Users can retrieve a list of camera keys for selected states and then view images captured by closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera. Its free Basic plan includes a hard limit of 1,000 requests per month.

Doxcan by Bazzillic is a camera scanner API enabling developers to create camera scanner applications. Its free Basic plan includes 50 processed images per month, and overages are 10 cents each.

Animetrics Face Recognition
The Animetrics Face Recognition API can be used to find human faces, detect feature points, correct for off angle photographs, and ultimately perform facial recognition. Information on facial features, including ears, nose, eyebrows, lips, chin are returned as coordinates on the image. The Animetrics Face Recognition API will also detect and return the gender and orientation, or "pose" of faces along 3 axes. A special capability called "SetPose" is also available which allows the face to be re-rendered at a desired pose that is different than the captured pose. I.e. as if the photo was taken with respect to any desired angle relative to the camera. This is typically used when the facial photo is captured off angle and a zero-corrected fully frontal image (0 degrees pitch, yaw, and roll) is required. Detected facial features may be corrected or modified to improve the final results of subsequent steps. For example, an eye in the picture may be hidden or obscured; requesting just eye feature points, manually correcting their locations, and feeding this data into a more detailed request will help improve the accuracy of additional feature point and pose detection.

Video hard cut detection
Video hard cut detection is used for separating a video stream into a set of individual scenes by detecting camera hard-transitions automatically. Based on the result the user can obtain a fast overview on the video content by browsing extracted key-frames from each video scene. Furthermore, with the corresponding time information the user can directly navigate to the expected video content. Demo link: https://www.semamediadata.com/demo/video-sbd/
