Sports Open Data is a project started in June 2015 created by Paolo Riva and Riccardo Quatra.
This project was born by a need we’ve found when looking for statistics in Sports: no website offers its data in an Open Data way.
Sports Open Data will work in this way: by providing a JSON REST API, Sports Open Data allow you to manage data for every single match we’ve stored on our database.
And that’s not over: Sports Open Data has been structured as an Open Organization: feel free to partecipate to our project or simply be part of our community to make it grow day by day. Open Data created by users for users.
Hi everybody, Soccer Sports Open Data API are now available on BETA version. You can see in documentation all the apis currently available and some sample data you could test it: stay tuned on Mashape and on Sports Open Data website to keep updated about leagues supports stable during next weeks.
For every question or request or simply to notify a bug or an error, feel free to ask in API Support in Mashape or contact us directly on Sports Open Data Website.

Really tnx a lot for your interest and stay tuned on Sports Open Data for further sports data.

Ready for a new league? For now feel free to use our apis for La Liga, Serie A and Premier League and… which should be our next league? I make you a suggest: maybe a minor league? Or maybe another major one… remember to follow us…
Day by day we’re going to increase our data on different leagues. Thanks to our dutch collaborators we’re proud to announce that it’s now available Eredivisie on Sports Open Data.

Eredivisie is just the “one more top league” on Sports Open Data: a result that it could be consider fantastic and unbelievable just few weeks ago. The crazy thing is that we’re going to announce a new league that will be added to our APIs, but this time not a main league but a minor league: this should be an important step forward to a big coverage for our data. Another important thing is the accuracy and the “time up” of our APIs that has a good response for more than 97%: a result that could be consider simply AMAZING for an Open Data service used from more than 100K times in a month globally.

But, let’s return to Eredivisie; so, how it works? You should find results, standings, teams and much more; feel free to discover more our APIs and if you find something wrong consider to open an issue on Mashape (where you could find our documentation) or simply contact us from our website.

Here some examples of what you could with Eredivisie 2016/2017 Open Data:

Eredivisie Teams 2016/2017 ( http://soccer.sportsopendata.net/v1/leagues/eredivisie/seasons/16-17/teams )
Eredivisie Standings 2016/2017 ( http://soccer.sportsopendata.net/v1/leagues/eredivisie/seasons/16-17/standings )
Eredivisie Rounds 2016/2017 ( http://soccer.sportsopendata.net/v1/leagues/eredivisie/seasons/16-17/rounds )
Eredivisie Round 1 2016/2017 ( http://soccer.sportsopendata.net/v1/leagues/eredivisie/seasons/16-17/rounds/giornata-1 )
Feyenoord Calendar 2016/2017 ( http://soccer.sportsopendata.net/v1/leagues/liga/seasons/16-17/rounds?team_identifier=ubo6txgiva9mkgyajicqy70uj08v3glj ). You could generate your team calendar simply by using the right team identifier.

Stay tuned on Sports Open Data because we’ve fantastic surprises next days: not only new leagues added to our apis but also some use cases that could be defined as succesfull this time; would you like to become one too? Feel free to contact us and tell us about your story. Do you want only to check out how it goes here? In this case stay tuned on our website or remember to check frequently our service page on SOD Website.

If you need to try all the APIs you could search for them on Mashape or you could simply get a Sports Open Data experience through our API console delivered by ApiGee

You’ve only to wait and get the new league on Sports Open Data api… and I tell you: it’s a minor league of a country for which we’ve already monitored the top league one.
After few weeks we’re working hard on our infrastructure and we’re glad to introduce a new api request: Head 2 Head.

What does it means H2H? Well it’s quite simple. Would you like to know how two teams, in a league, during a season are they going to play against or maybe would you like to know how the go in their previous matches? Now with our new attribute you’re able to do that and, more interesting, you’re able to that also on our historical data.

If you would like to know an head 2 head against 2 teams you could simply add these attributes to rounds request:

http://soccer.sportsopendata.net/v1/leagues/serie-a/seasons/16-17/rounds?team_1_slug={team_1}&team_2_slug={team_2}

where team_1 and team_2 are team_slug values like e.g.: juventus or inter.

As you could see head 2 head has been available only for the specified season, so to do that you need to do this request for every year you need it.

It’s time for new feature here in Sports Open Data so… stay tuned and ask for everything you need on our socials, contact us or simply comment this post.

We’re here to help you use our open data now and more…
After 1 year of great service in Open Data we’ve enable a paypal donation support to help us to support Sports Open Data alive.

We’ve made great results with Sports Open Data in this last year: we’ve created a great developers community based with more than 1 thousand developers on Mashape, we’ve reached more than 50K requests a month on our Apis through leagues we deliver you day by day, with a 24/7 service available.

We’ve done great things based only on hours and hours of passion for what we do, simply by doing what we need to make our api better day by day: trying to engage more people and discovering which projects are going to start based on our open data service simply to learn how to make it better and what you want or, moreover, what you need.

So what we’re asking you is to help us continue to make this dream true day by day, month by month, year by year: to do that you should simply donate on paypal how much you want; feel free to do that cause your help could make us able to improve what we do.

We’re working hard to deliver to you all important open data about leagues, but what do you think about some open data logos?

It’s really difficult, day by day, to deliver to you data that should be usable in front of our terms of service that, remember it’s REALLY important, ensure you to reuse all the data you get in an OPEN DATA way: so you’re free to reuse it without any kind of fee or license to pay to anyone, anytime, anyway.

This phrase makes Sports Open Data completely different from a lot of the free service you should find in the world, because we guarantee about our data and we’re very proud to remember it to you: if you would like to check it out take a look to our Terms and Conditions.

Through this we’re unable to deliver to you, in open data, original logos of serie A teams because we’re unable to control what you’re going to do with that one: so we’ve produced some open data logos that allow you to match a serie a team with its colors that could help you to create a better app with also open data images moreover open data stats.

But how to get them? Simply by using our Soccer Sports Open Data Apis; if you try to request about team of Serie A League you should find a flag value: there you should find an URL that allow you to get the logo of the specified team.

So to get them you should use this api request: take a look to DOCUMENTATION and under Teams in Season you should find it. If you should think it it could be useful we should it also do for archive data in Serie A.

We hope you should be happy to see that and, if you like it, feel free to tell us through comments or email or messages on our social networks: it’s really important for us to get your support and to discover more about your needs to create a better service day-by-day.

Finally, but not less important, we’re really sorry that, in these last days, we’re going to experiencing some problems to deliver open data service because we’ve find a huge increase of requests from all of you: that’s an important feedback about what we do. But as a negative face of this medal, our servers are in these days in difficulties and we’re going to consider to improve our hardware to support all your requests: of course, if you would like to help us with a support, feel free to donate through our paypal donate button or simply discover more through our last post.
Hi guys, we’ve decided to make a change to a value for a response in our Apis: take a look to this post to get more info about that.

After some talks with some of you developers we’ve decided to change the round value from the italian “giornata” in a more english-generic “round”.

We’ve talked a lot about here in Sports Open Data about this change because it’s not really graceful to change a value of an API that a great number of developers (at this time more than 1.200 on mashape) use every day.

Take a look to our documentation and feel free to open issues or contact us here to get more info about that or to notify any errors or problem you may find out: we’re here to help you to create everything you want with our apis, help us to make our apis better. And remember, if you want, to support us through a donation on Paypal
Great news here in Sports Open Data. To make our updates more accessible now it’s available Sports Open Data Telegram Channel.

During this year we’ve tried to promote our website through several social network: at the beginning there’s only Twitter, than we’ve added also Facebook and Google Plus; then we’ve started publish our posts also on reddit but it’s not enough.

We’ve received, during these weeks, a lot of request about the possibility to open a channel on Telegram: it’s a new different way to promote Sports Open Data and we hope you should try to follow us also there and to be part of Sports Open Data community.

What should you find on our Telegram Channel? First of all our updates and our posts: we’re ready to publish there all the news we’re going to make available here on our website.

This time we would like to make you part of something much bigger, to be part of Sports Open Data Community and support the service that, day by day, give you all the data you need about Italian Serie A and Serie B, English Premier League, Spanish La Liga and Dutch Eredivisie: that’s why we’ve think about a Kickstarter Project that you’re able to support simply by become a supporter.

We’ve think about several ways to be our supporter: you should get different kind of rewards instead of different kind of support; from 5 to 100 Euros you’re able to earn different prizes that you’ve to consider a special “Thank You” for the interest you give to our open data service.

We hope to earn our goal of 500 Euros for 2017 Support; what should we do with that money?

First of all we’re going to improve our servers to deliver a service better than now. Currently we’re working in initial server and we need to increase our infrastructure to be sure to deliver our data with an interesting increase of requests we’ve in these last months

Hey guys how are you? It’s a long period that we’re not writing anything but, first of all you’ve to know that Sports Open Data is not dead: other way we’re working really hard to improve our performances and we’re waiting to start with a new life in Open Data World; about that you’ve to be patient and to wait for few weeks to discover some news about that.

We’ve found some bugs on our apis and we’ve solved them and we’ve thought to create a new endpoint about events available on our APIs. It’s really important for you because, thanks to this result, you’re able to loop on all events type available and find them dynamically on match details.

How should I discover the events? Simply use the following API:

https://sportsop-soccer-sports-open-data-v1.p.mashape.com/v1/utils/events

What do you think about this endpoint? Are you looking for a new one that is currently unavailable? Feel free to tell us about what you need or what you think about Sports Open Data APIs by Skype, Email or simply with a comment: we’re going to answer you as fast as possible to help you integrate this incredibile Sports Open Data service.
We’ve thought a lot about Sports Open Data future in these days and now it’s time to update you about that. Are you curious? Simply read more…

It’s about 1 year and 6 month that Sports Open Data starts to deliver its service, first of all simply with Serie A data and then by deliver to your every week more and more data and by increasing our archive. An impressive service (as described on JokeCamp https://www.jokecamp.com/blog/guide-to-football-and-soccer-data-and-apis/#SportsOpenData ) that should try to deliver open data in sports stats. A difficult work in a market where there were great market leaders and a great number of middle-low distributors.

We’ve tried to understand if Open Data should be the way: how should we deliver for free something that everyone sells? How should we survive if no one helps us? So we started thinking about a no-profit organization where everyone should help Sports Open Data growth day by day: interesting way but we shouldn’t be able to be a strong competitor for customers that should use our serivces.

So now we’ve spent enough time to tell you that … now we’re a company and we’re able to distribute to you all the service you need and you want. Anyway, don’t worry, we continue delivery our stats in Open Data way: you should get for free all the data available simply we’ve created a rate limit (100 request a day) that we consider a good way to help you to continue to use our service: if you need more requests simply contact us and we evaluate a proposal fit to your needs.

If you want to discover more information about Sports Open Data simply go on How It Works page and feel free to contact us by our contact form, by Skype, by Phone, by comment this post or simply by email: we’re here to help you use our data and to help Open Data grow day by day also thanks to your use.
It has been passed a lot of time from last post, but we’ve spent it to create our benchmark: let me introduce to you Sports Open Data Coverage Table.

When you’re going to use our open data dataset the first question you’re going to ask it for is usually the following one: which kind of data have you got on your dataset? It’s a really simple question but also difficult to explain because it’s not so “easy-to-use” understand how much deep a data is and how it should be on different leagues available on Sports Open Data dataset during different seasons.

So you’re able, from Sports Open Data Coverage Table, to get 3 different kind of availability:

YES, means that data has been fully covered for the specific league in a defined season.
INCOMPLETE, means that you should find some data but coverage has not been completed.
MISSING, means that there’s no data for that specific league in defined season.
How should Sports Open Data Coverage Table should help you? As I told you first of all allow you to understand what should be available from our dataset: moreover make you able to ask for a specific data that should be missing or incomplete to be completed to help your business growing.

Don’t you know how to contact us? Feel free to ask via Skype, Email or simply by using our social network channels: we’re here to help you use our open data dataset and make our dataset grow day-by-day.

Where should i find the Sports Open Data Coverage Table? We’ve changed Our Service page to make our benchmark more clear with a full transparency for what are you going to use from us: if you’ve any kind of suggest feel free to notify to us and help us make it better.

We’ve passed a very happy weekend in these days because we’ve discovered that one of the most important daily journal in Italy, Corriere della Sera, has published an article that talks about Sports and Open Data. Of course, in this case, they also talk about Sports Open Data and what we deliver to everyone of you every day.

It’s an important step forward for us for more things: firstly one of the most important journals in Italy talks about an argument that it’s usually not a top trend; not only: over there talks about us and about the possibility to improve business with open data (yes, you could do that and with really poor costs).

If you would like to check it out our article feel free to join this link: http://www.corriere.it/extra-per-voi/2017/06/06/accessibili-utilizzabili-gratuiti-miracolo-open-data-arriva-anche-sport-ad71f6ca-4ae1-11e7-ac11-205c7f1cfc9f.shtml

We hope to increase our dataset and I suggest you to stay tuned next weeks because we’ve some interesting new things in Sports Open Data that comes from an interesting discussion made on reddit previous weeks, if you would like to read this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/opendata/comments/6d54qt/sports_open_data_new_pricing_plans_from_0_to_200/

Are you curious? Hope yes, and also I hope you stay tuned and discover what we’re going to introduce next weeks: if you would like to increase your business I think that you should discover really interesting new things; new leagues? dataset improvement? I could answer you with simply one word… Maybe!

One of the goal that we’re going to catch here in Sports Open Data is to improve year by year what we’re doing because we think that Open Data is one of the most important goals in future way to deliver and use Open Data dataset.

German Bundesliga seems to be a one way tournament with a great team Bayern Munich more interested in european competitions than german one; probably most important competitor could be Borussia Dortmund that it’s going to work hard every day to be competitive in a strong tournament like Bundesliga.

Is it so simple for Bayern Munich so? Not at all. They’ve to take care to out transfers because there’s more than one rumors over Renato Sanches, one of the most interesting prospect in future football.

Let’s return to Bundesliga: which will be first round? First of all it’s going to start on August 18th:

Bayern Munich – Bayer Leverkusen

Mainz – Hannover

Hertha – Stuttgart

Hamburg – Augusta

Wolfsburg – Borussia Dortmund

Hoffenheim – Werder Bremen

Schalke 04 – Leipzig

Freiburg – Eintracht

Borussia Moenchengladbach – Koln

And they’re four: Premier League, Serie A, Liga and Bundesliga. Now we need only one last step to get Big 5 leagues Calendar 2017/2018 in Open Data; another little step over a great season available for all of you, for free, on Sports Open Data.

Simply incredible first round in Ligue 1 with Neymar arrivals and shocking result for Nice against Saint Etienne.

Ligue 1 has been started last weekend and we’re able to introduce to you our Open Data dataset and to talk about soccer leagues with this Sports Open Data weekly reportage on one of the leagues we follow. In these posts we’re going to introduce to you our dataset and you’re able to ask for it through our third party partner Mashape

Round 1 – Results
In Open Data: https://sportsop-soccer-sports-open-data-v1.p.mashape.com/v1/leagues/ligue1/seasons/17-18/rounds/round-1

This round has been really shocking from friday when, with an incredible offer of more than 200M of Euros Neymar has been transferred from Barcelona to Paris Saint Germain and it’s going to play to try to win everything with his new team. Anyway PSG wins also without him with a strong 2-0 against Amiens. Their best competitor Monaco and Nice goes in different ways: Monaco gets an home win against Toulouse with a suffered 3-2 but the most impressive result has been made by Nice that losts its first game in this season Ligue 1 against Saint-Etienne (0-1). First place in Ligue 1 for Lyon that wins 4-0 in his home debut against Racing Strasbourg.

Round 2 – Next Round
In Open Data: https://sportsop-soccer-sports-open-data-v1.p.mashape.com/v1/leagues/ligue1/seasons/17-18/rounds/round-2

Biggest teams has not been involved in great matches in this next round (from Aug 11th to 13th): Nice in its home debut tries to get 3 points against Troyes and, on other side, PSG (against Guingamp), Monaco (against Dijon) and Lyon (against Rennes) they’ve to continue their run for the first place.

Standings
In Open Data: https://sportsop-soccer-sports-open-data-v1.p.mashape.com/v1/leagues/ligue1/seasons/17-18/standings

Nothing more particular than already talked about in previous points. Most shocking result has been made by Nice that has 0 points after 1 match and they have already 3 points to recover against their direct rivals. It’s the first match, of course, but it’s a strong start for Nice in this season. Of course their transfers, today has been arrived Snejider, could help Balotelli and his team to recover their gap.
