pronunciationPattern Search Irregularities

Seeing what seems to be irregular performance with the pronunciationPattern search parameter, or perhaps I’m misunderstanding something about its use.

“pronunciationPattern =^b” - this returns only words with pronunciation patterns beginning in “b” as expected

“pronunciationPattern =[b]” - this returns words that do not begin with “b” as expected, but also returns words beginning with “b”

The word “babs” is a strange case that illustrates additional odd behavior. Running a search for “babs” at the WordsApi home page shows that it has the pronunciation pattern “bæbz”, yet the “^b” search will not return this word while the “[b]”, which should return no words beginning in “b”, will return it along with other words beginning in “b”.

Thanks,
