how do I draw an overlay on mouse over for a zip code boundary

I’m drawing zip code boundaries using geojson on a google maps. I’d also like this to be intractable. If someone hovers the mouse over a zip code, it should bring up a “cursor” that reads “We serve zip code: xxxxx”. Any ideas?

any tip on efficiently calculating the center of each zip polygon? google API requires providing latlong for a marker/label/overlay and that means (common case) calculating the center of each polygon in order to place that marker.
Any advice?

This can be done easily with our API and GoogleMaps for example:
