how do I draw an overlay on mouse over for a zip code boundary

Question

I'm drawing zip code boundaries using geojson on a google maps. I'd also like this to be intractable. If someone hovers the mouse over a zip code, it should bring up a "cursor" that reads "We serve zip code: xxxxx". Any ideas?

any tip on efficiently calculating the center of each zip polygon?  google API requires providing latlong for a marker/label/overlay and that means (common case) calculating the center of each polygon in order to place that marker.
Any advice?
