Is it possible to just get the number of tweets mentioning a certain keyword per day. The details about each tweet is not necessarily needed.

Hi, I don’t think that is possible; because Twitter decides what (tweets) and how many results get returned. Knowing accurately, this number means ringing the false-positive bell.
