README

Welcome to the Metrx Factory!

This API assists you in making informed decisions on the global football (soccer) market.
It lets you objectively evaluate the performance of thousands of football teams participating in more than 400 competitions. Based on quantitative models originated from a data set of 1.4 million matches the Metrx Factory compiles widely known figures such as Expected Goals (xG) and market handicaps (spreads) for nearly every professional team in the world.

For a full description of available API endpoints please check the OpenAPI specification.
You may also consult the API reference for details about parameters, enumerations and response types.

The Metrx Factory forms an analytical library and generates sports metrics by means of predictive methodologies. Since the provided data may substantially vary in informative value API responses are primarily charged on a content relevance basis. You should therefore reflect on which numbers are most important to you. Among common parameters some endpoints support a content selection mechanism called projection. It filters the API response according to your requirements and directly affects payload and the credits billed for the response.

Structure and features

The API is composed of the following modules:

  • The Metrics module gives access to team related figures which are calculated for individual games. These allow direct comparison between modelled data, final results and market estimation.
  • The Performance Index module summarizes endpoints for querying team and competition rankings and performance trends.
  • The Market module provides odds trends and deviations (still in beta mode).
  • The Base Library contains the endpoints for basic records such as teams and competitions.

A cost-optimizing feature is offered by the Top Match Metrics operation. The premium endpoint enables custom metrics logic and returns a subset of matches showing the top values regarding your criteria. This way, you may not only search efficiently for most relevant teams and matches but also save credits.

Metric collections

The following metric collections are available (API version 1.1.0):

  • Performance index - objective ratings of team and competition strength.
Assessing sports team performance usually underlies subjective perception driven by short-term volatility. The Metrx Index algorithm overcomes resultant biases by allocating a separate performance index per team/competition and taking a daily snapshot of all available indices. In addition, the trend of an index may reveal insights about team building and potential turnarounds of recent performance.

  • Expected and actual scores, score probabilities.
The media landscape in general comes out with Expected Goals figures during or right after a match. This does not happen before shot/goal ratios are well-known which in fact has only statistical but no forecasting power. In contrast, the Metrx Factory is designed to build predictive numbers by weighing teams’ past performance while incorporating opponent strength. This approach allows a classic forecast of match scores. The factory actually manages various predictive models in the context of a certain score type leading to interrelated but separate expectations for goals, shots and corners.

  • Expected odds and market odds.
Similar to expected scores the art of odds compiling represents a method of forecasting performance depicted as market prices or strictly speaking probabilities. The Metrx Factory supports expected (i.e. statistically fair) odds for the moneyline, Asian handicap and total goals alongside average market odds for upcoming matches.
Keep in mind that all expectations are the result of crunching numbers and will never incorporate psychologic factors which can play a crucial part in team performance. It is strongly recommended never relying on pure maths when investing in sports. Always check the market’s proposition, combine information and try to figure out the reasons behind discrepancies.
