Basic plan automatic limitation

Is there a way to limit the use of the api so that if i make more requests than I am allowed for free then the request will not go through?

Yeah that's what stopping me to, also adding card on basic plan is not what I want.
We have requested this feature ourselves but RapiAPI does not support that yet. You have to check the response headers and stop calling when they say that your quota is 0. Should be easy for you to implement.
